Cabin Fever Community Guide Empty
PostSubject: Cabin Fever Community Guide   Cabin Fever Community Guide Icon_minitimeJuly 17th 2010, 2:01 pm

Because so many ppl play Cabin Fever I think it would be nice to have a guide. However, since there are a lot of different tactics and a lot of different strategies I think it is best for anyone to write a guide if you feel like it. If you post a guide under here please edit your guide if you make changes instead of reposting and try not to comment on the guides much. People have different opinions on this map and it would be best if there is as little commentary as possible to make it easier to find ppl's guides. There is a guide on Strategy Wiki but since the people who wrote it seem to know a lot more about L4D than CA I think it has little to no credibility. I'll start with mine:

Daraku9's Cabin Fever guide:

First off you might ask why play Cabin Fever and the typical person would tell you this:

Pros:
easy exp and gp
doesn't ruin your kdr
not too many hackers since hackers usually want to kill ppl instead of npcs which wouldn't give them much exp or gp compared to a pub match anyway (since they can finish a game in a minute with OPK. Hackers sometimes power level in CF to level up since people with higher ranks are usually not hackers but people usually CF for points anyway so kicking them is usually easy)

Cons:
You have to use at least 2 guns which is annoying unless you have a perm MG or AR
you can lag out if someone uses a flamethrower (supposedly)
there is usually at least 2 people in every room who are stupid and at best are just zombie bait

Personally I think you don't have to bring an MG and if you lag from a flamethrower your computer must really suck (unless your running a lot of background applications or are using high graphics settings even a Pentium 4 processor shouldn't lag you out. To this day I've seen people start to suck because of frame rate loss from flamethrowers but have never seen anyone's computer crash or lag out). Personally I would also add these to the list:

Pros:
gun practice
voice chat practice
helps you be more efficient with your bullets

Cons:
Elite
makes your kdr sensitive
makes you used to stupid and predictable npcs
encourages you to spray
costs a lot of gp if you want to bring a lot of guns
the glitches are annoying

Firstly your playing CF for your own benefits so you should bring a gun you want to practice on. For example I bring my G36E when I play CF to practice tap firing and placing headshots on far targets. This is the best place to practice (besides training grounds if you shoot poles while moving since you have unlimited ammo). This is also great to learn to provide useful information to your team mates since your enemies are slow and your allies will have plenty of time to react. In a normal Clan War this is a lot harder because your ally could get gunned down while your talking to them making it hard to learn how to use it effectively and give useful information(example: (player name) Look your to your lef... *your ally gets shot down* nvm......).

Elites are 99% useless in CF (the 1% is in case the people in your room are stuipid and reject a kick on a noob/hacker and since when an elite kicks it instantly kicks while if you normal kick you will have to wait for people to vote. Super elite mods give you a small boost in exp and gp). If there is a hacker it should be easy to get them kicked since most ppl are there for the gp and exp and won't want their guns to go to waste so they will be up for the idea of getting the hacker kicked. The reason there are so many Elites is because the Elite always wants to enforce some rules which usually include:

Must have voice chat
must have 2-3 MGs
don't shoot the breakable windows
don't get the M32
don't get the magnum
don't kill steal
don't use flamethrower
Fishbowl when the Elite says so
don't use mines
you must have # clears (only on the rooms that say so)

Although there is logic to these rules they are not nessesary and I've beaten extreme mode without following any of them (or at least one person in the room not following one of each of the rules in the same game). I don't want to bring up any stereotypes but from the games I've seen the Elites are usually 28-48 year old men who refuse to have things done in someone else's way and wants everyone to respect them because they think they are bringing order to the room that will get them far in CF. The reason why they think every rule is important (and why I think they are trash or not necessary) is:

voice chat helps you to communicate to team members (I'm not blind and I can use the mini map which is a lot more helpful than random chatter from a dead noob in voice chat although information on where enforcers are is much more helpful.)

MGs will help you shoot people down without having to break formation in a fishbowl to get ammo (I've seen people run out of ammo because they cant use AR ammo much more often than not having enough ammo in a fishbowl and you should have plenty with an Ar and MG unless you spray)

The breakable windows allow enemies to see you and charge in during a fishbowl (The infected have a line of vision around them which is effected by walls and obstacles and the wood in the windows would prevent them from seeing you. On the other hand there are broken windows to the side of the ones that are breakable and the range of vision is not close enough if your fishbowling so its not that useful of a tactic. Most of the time someone will accidentally nade or spray at the windows and break them on accident anyway)

Although the M32 is useful in taking out large ammount of enemies grouped together it lags people (again I don't see why you would be lagging however I think the M32 would get you less points and kill less enemies than a MG)

The magnum only kills a few enemies with its low ammo so its useful (2 headshots (I believe it is 2 anyway) can take down an enforcer so a decent sniper could single handedly take down almost all enforcers in a round using the magnum alone but it would be very impractical shooting anything else)

kill stealing is preventing people from getting points and is very unfair (Only noobs whine about kill stealing. If your good you should get plenty of kills no matter how often you get ksed. Noobs are the ones usually getting ksed anyway and I hardly feel they should get kills if they are incompetent)

Flamethrowers make people lag out (never had any problems with this but apparently some people lag out with flamethrower. The only time I've personally had any lag was when 4 specs were using it at the same time when it just came out. I still think you have to be running on high graphic settings or have a bad computer to be dropping out of games from a flamethrowers)

A single person who doesn't fishbowl will screw everything up and it will make the fishbowl useless. (Normally people wont get too far away from a fishbowl to cause that much of a problem and if someone is completely ignoring it then you could normal kick them easily)

Mines are distracting (this is a stupid argument in my point of view (I find peoples' muzzle flash in the dark map to be far more annoying and its nothing to whine about) although I still suggest you don't bring mines since they will only be useful if you put them in front of doors during a fishbowl since that is the only time the infected will be clumped up enough for mines to be somewhat as effective as the default nade. If you do happen to bring mines there is a chance people on your team will shoot them down just to be annoying)

high clears means you are good and can help you finish CF (I have only beaten CF 5 times on my account (2 with hacker noobs in the room and 3 clears on extreme) and I'm always 1-2nd in the room. Clears aren't everything but its the only way people can clear out the noobs from a room (although a person with the standard 100 clears is hard to find))

Playing on CF will rank you up fast but will make your kdr sensitive. I was playing with a hacker clan in a CW and we were getting our asses hacked off by them (aimbotters). Two of the admins in our clan left the room and another admin (It was me and 3 other admins. I can't remember who left or stayed) stayed in the room with me so we wouldn't get a forfeit. I played a 9-22 game but my kdr only went down by .01 while the other ppl including the ones who left early lost .04-.07 kdr even though they were the same or higher rank than me and got less deaths than me simply because they had less kills/deaths to begin with. Although CF is good practice it lets you get used to dumb npcs instead of real players and encourages you to go rambo on people instead of taking cover and making smart decisions. One of the most annoying things about the map is that everything can get a hs on you. From the gas outside to an enemy explosion, health packs (recovers more hp without using up extra health from the pack), to falling and even normal infected attacks when you are at 100 hp makes CF one of the most annoying rooms in CA. Although all of this has made me less fond of the map it is good for practice in.

Gear:

Weapons: 1-2 MGs and 1 AR or as many ARs as you can carry if the room master isn't elite

Support: grenade

Gear: anything that adds speed. Armor is aimless because anything that can damage you in CF doesn't remove AP (unless FF is on, you fire nade yourself, or your auto turret shoots you)

Wave 1-10:
During these waves your team should stay inside the house and shoot from the doors with 2 people a door. If there is 8 people 2 will have to get windows and kill any infected that get leaked so everyone can focus on their doors without having to worry about a few straggler infected. You should not go outside and there shouldn't be any leaks or your team is probably not going to get past level 15. In any round past the first few ones you should always shoot an infected if you are going to shoot another one behind it. This will help you get points and save ammo. Rounds 1-10 is the best time to practice using the weapon you wanted to practice on. The reason you could use a lot of ARs is because there is always going to be at least one incompetent person in the room (even in rooms where an elite has rigorously screened all the players) and you can steal their MGs when they die (don't buy ARs for this tactic if you don't use them for pub matches. This is more of a GP saving thing.). If it gets tough and you died the previous round and all your teammates besides you are dead in the latter rounds you will still have your ARs which will make it easier to get ammo from the yellow cases and run faster when you have to go outside. During the whole game if there is a person with healthpacks they will usually place them outside for emergencies. The female infected should spawn during round 5 and your team gets completely healed at round 10 and 5. During this time specialist with med packs should be placing the meds outside since noobs will usually camp on them if they are inside. If you do happen to get completely overwhelmed make sure you get outside to the side of the building as the broken windows. make sure no one is attacking you from behind and aim toward the double doors shooting any infected that come to you. When they get too close move backword and they will return to the inside of the building with infected spewing out of the door behind you. When they have barely left the door move forward again and they will return to the building while the other ones that were going into the building will spew out again. Repeat till you have enough room to return into the building (if a spec placed med packs outside you will probably walk over them when using this tactic so you will have enough health till all the infected are dead).

Wave 11-15:
At the start of the round some infected will appear from the metal doors. Some people stay at the edge of the doors so they can run through as soon as its gone to get the magnum but its not worth it. From rounds 11-15 you can fishbowl if the people in your room suck but most people do it at found 16. Aside from the person at the metal doors having to cover 2 doors at once leading to a lot more leaks there is little difference from round 1-10 and 11-15. The M32 is dropped at round 13 but I suggest you don't pick it up since it wont get you that many kills or points.

Wave 16-20:
Infected will start pouring in from upstairs (interestingly enough infected and female host infected NPCs will appear in the cinema but don't appear during any of the rounds. I think it would be nice if nexon added them in to make CF more interesting and diverse). At this time you should be fishbowling which is basically just everyone crowding in the small hallway on the first floor and camping there since the infected will come through slower and in a straight line. If someone doesn't fishbowl this will make the fishbowl useless so you will have to get the guy to the fishbowl or kick them if you have to. When there are a few infected remaining you can break formation to shoot them down. The double golden punisher spawns at round 16, the napalm airstrike at 18 and the minigun at 20. The minigun is the only one thats useful unless you are good with airstrikes since you would only be able to use it every 1.5 rounds because of its cooldown. If something goes terribly wrong in any of the rounds and you get over run make sure you get outside to ensure the infected don't corner you.

Fishbowl alternates:

Healthpack Strategy:
In this strategy the whole point is to get overrun and use healthpacks that one or more specs place outside (usually on the same side of the map as the broken windows). This allows you to go rambo and enemies charging at you outside is one of the most effective ways to get the infected to bunch up in front of you. The problem with this strategy is that the gas can still get a head shot on you, noobs can burn through your healthpacks or a noob could throw a nade on them and blow them up.

Spec Strategy:
This is where specs use flamethrowers, Claymores, ARs, and Healthpack/shots and just overwhelm the infected inside the house or outside ignoring if they get cornered or not (by running around in circles around the infected). This is a strategy that takes a lot of coordination, NX, and team planning but is amazingly good. Although it may look like just a bunch of specs being noob I've seen 2 specs single handedly (me and another non spec spent the game dieing since the specs led the infected in) get to round 13 with this strategy which makes it seem like an excelent power leveling strategy if you can afford the NX, are skilled and have several friends who also are.

Altered Fishbowl Strategy:
The same as the fishbowl strategy except one or two people are in the kitchen. The benefit of this strategy is it siphons off the exploding infected which can be taken out by the people there if the people in the hallway can't and if someone leaks there is still a group that is unaffected.

Hacker Strategy:
If you for some reason you think have to resort this strategy to rank up and get GP/EXP because you think CF and getting Exp/GP is to hard you should quit the clan and uninstall Combat Arms. Nearly all failed CF runs fail because someone screwed up by making a noob mistake and it shouldn't be a problem finishing Extreme if you play right (you just have to find a good room that isn't full of noobs). Even if you still can't beat CF on extreme its not that important and you could play on some other map if it ticks you off that you can't complete the map. Even if you do have a hacker in your room it doesn't guarantee completing the room. I've been in plenty of rooms where even the Hackers Strategy fails because the hacker's computer can hardly run CA let alone hacks or the hacker has a bad hack (such as no spread + aimbot + shoot through walls but no ammo hack so they run out of ammo after killing only a few infected) (I only let a hacker in a few my rooms without starting a kick back when everyone thought Extreme was impossible to finish without hacks and even then the hacker usually failed). I've only been in two rooms where a hacker actually beat CF without screwing up in one way or another and dieing.

Disclaimer: Combat Arms belongs to Nexon and you should not post this guide elsewhere without giving me credit.

SgtNiox94's Guide for Cabin Fever

Wave 1-9:
Pretty much just 2ppl to a door and 2 floaters (floaters are people who go around helping out on any door) If everyone stays at their door then it should be pretty easy.

Wave 10-14:
(Basement Door opens)In the beginning of this round everyone should gather by the kitchen or barn door. When round starts throw nades then shoot and the big blue guy should die pretty easily. After the blue guy is dead go back to your door and do what you did in Waves 1-9. (There is a sniper down stairs very use full for killing blue guys. 2 headshots and they die.) If a blue guy is at your door communicate! If you have a mic just tell people "Blue guy at (whatever door you are covering)

Between waves 10-14 there will be a M32 downstairs i suggest people to not grab it and use it because it can freeze ur game. Every other weapon is fine.

Wave 15-20:
(Upstairs fence opens)Before round 15 starts everyone should group at barn door. The two people that cover the front door stay there you may need one more person to help with barn door. You stay at the barn door because now the zombies won't be rushing in the house. Before round 15 ends rush upstairs and look for a gun. (i forget what it is) Wave 16-18 there is gonna be a golden shotgun somewhere on the original floor very effective but i wouldn't suggest trading a MG for it. Wave 20 there is gonna be a minigun upstairs very very usefull for moving down zombies in the house.

"Barn Door" This door is very usefull for escaping out of the house if tons of sombies are in it. Also, when u walk out of the barn door go to the left if you are going outside because the left side has more room to walk the right side u can't get very far from house.

Places I Recommend Specs to place Med Kits:
Out side of barn door to the left a little bit away from the house. Also set some outside of the front door (aka Double Doors) just walk out the double doors and turn right and set them in the corner outside the house. It is really gud place to set them.

Places I Do NOT Recommend Specs to Place Their Med Kits:
Anywhere on the left side of the house and none inside of the house. I don't want anyu on the left side because there is a boundary very close to that side of the house and its auto kill if u walk into it. Don't set inside house becuase of those zombies with bombs strapped to there chest and the Lady with explosive balls with blow the med kits up when they die.

DOs and DON'Ts with Med Kits:
DON'T Shoot while on them
DON'T Stand on med kits because there should be enough to just walk across and be full HP
DON'T Use the medkits before round 10. If you die that easily before round 10 just get a HP kit the zombies drop.
DON'T group up on the med kits when alot of people are on them they explode really easy

DO use the med kits when your HP turns red. Red HP means you have extremely low HP. DO well everything I didnt say.

If you have any of the special weapons the game leaves for you to use and you die with it out and it is on ground TELL EVERY ONE because if no one picks it up it will disappear and you won't get to use it anymore. And again DONT pick up the M32 im serious it can freeze ur game. Also, Specs with flamethrowers it does lag everybody in that game so keep the use down please and thank you.

Hope this guide helps,

Great guide for those who are new to CFing or just can't figure out how to beat it. This'll certainly help people run through an extreme CF since fishbowling (I hate that name) is a tried-and-true method to beating it.

I think this may be a little too restrictive for good players/teams.

I hardly ever fishbowl like everyone else does, but then again, I also pack 3 MGs with me to any CF. You can get away with camping near the middle of the building where you can see both the fence and the front door to rack up MASSIVE points. Of course you have to trust your team to cover the basement and back door but it's a far easier way to rank up than conforming to fishbowl.

Daraku9, you say :"If there is a hacker it should be easy to get them kicked since ppl are there for the gp and exp and won't want their guns to go to waste so they will be up for the idea of getting the hacker kicked. " i don't think that this in entirely true because in most of the games i play, people want hackers to join and not kick them because they actually want to finish the game rather than just play for exp and gp.
In a Cabin Fever, I usually only take 2 machine guns and my default gun although this month I've been taking the G36E as well since its at half price.
In fishbowls, I recommend that 3 people guard the barn side of the door while the other 5 stay inside the hallway and guard the other doors. I find that much easier.
Sorry if this post fails, but this is my first time posting something on here!

Also, how do you show the combatsigs thing after your post???

@Tyleh Personally I hate the fishbowl. The best run I've done was a modified version of the fishbowl where some people were in the kitchen along with the small hallway which allowed more people to shoot without crowding. The only reason why the fishbowl is the only method stated is because its the most surefire way and a lot of the noobs in the CF rooms can't possibly see it being done in another way and will argue with you if you suggest something else (from my experience).

@Randomprsn I have also seen a lot of people who want hackers in their room but since the clan cap is cheaper than a MG and only has 5% less sprint stamina than the infected masks (and doesn't take up your face gear) the number of hackers has significantly decreased since the clan cap's release. I remember when CF first came out almost everyone thought that it was virtually impossible to beat CF on extreme and wouldn't start the game unless there was a hacker in the room (aside from camping in the basement which has been patched). Now only noobs allow hackers for the infected mask. To make a signature you need to enable it in preferences under profile and add a signature which is right next to the add a profile picture link (you can get a cool signature from Combatsigs.com or other websites).

Yea my guide was just covering some things everyone knows but i came back with some new information. If you lag with a flamethrower in the room you can go to newegg.com and compusa.com and buy thhis thing called a Nivida 9800gtx+ i hear that that is a graphic card or something and it is no lag and when flamethrowers are used it doesnt lag you. I haven't bought it but im looking into it because i have bad lag. When i go into a game it takes a minute at the most before i get in game. Also, some more CF guide help is before you go into game go to options and go to the Sound tab and click off for "Game sound for voice." What this does is when someone is talking in game the sound goes off so you can better understand the person talking. The only reason this would be bad for in game play is if a noob is holding down the talk button and isnt talking because with no sound you cant tell if you are about to get attacked from behind. A guy i always play CF with is BootKnocka he has Super Elite Mod passwords his room and he has cleared Extreme with 4 people(including himself). He makes everyone Fishbowl on round 15 and if they dont he kicks them. We make it to round 19 7/10 times.
